Stimulating Young Minds
A child’s early years lay the foundation for lifelong learning. Children with access to early learning opportunities are shown to have an increase in cognitive and socio-emotional ability, which translates to more outcomes. In addition, when entering school, young children need parents and/or caregivers who advocate for them to ensure they receive the appropriate services and supports.
It is the ultimate goal of the Staten Island Alliance to help parents and school staff create supportive learning environments that enable children of all ages to succeed academically. To date, the Early Learning Environments Working Group has sought to:
- Increase the access and utilization of summer and early learning opportunities for young children in the North Shore
- Advocate for children to ensure they are receiving the appropriate services and supports
- Provide training opportunities for school stakeholders to enhance program quality and community engagement

Here are some examples of the types of strategies our Working Groups will be implementing:
Increase the access and utilization of summer and early learning opportunities for young children in the North Shore community.
Advocate for children to ensure they are receiving the appropriate IEP evaluation and access to necessary supports.
Provide training opportunities to equip school stakeholders with the skills to empower other community members.
Working Groups
Our working groups plan and implement strategies that improve outcomes for North Shore families and children. The Staten Island Alliance has identified five specific areas of need and created a working group to address these specific issues.
The North Shore Spotlight
The North Shore of Staten Island is home to one of the most rich and diverse populations in New York City. The North Shore Spotlight is a place for us to showcase the exemplary teachers, staff, students, and community members that contribute to our organization’s success.
