Cultivating Young Minds
Research shows that children need exposure to meaningful developmental opportunities and access to specific systems of support in order to make the transition from home to school. Yet, the North Shore ranks 56th out of 59th of NYC school districts for early education enrollment for 3 and 4 year-olds.
To better prepare the North Shore young children’s transition from home to school, the Staten Island Alliance helps families gain access to early educational opportunities that increase their cognitive, physical, social, and emotional skills development. Our efforts aim to prepare children for success from the moment they step into their first classroom.

How We Will Measure Success
THE STATEN ISLAND ALLIANCE WILL USE THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA TO MONITOR THE SUCCESS OF OUTCOMES FOR OUR SCHOOL READINESS EFFORTS:
An increase in the number and percent of children deemed kindergarten ready, as measured by age-appropriate literacy & numeracy skills.
An increase in the number and percent of children deemed kindergarten ready, as measured by age-appropriate social & emotional development.
Our Mission
By 2022, the Staten Island Alliance will improve the overall well being of
children ages birth through eight years old on the North Shore community of Staten Island.

The North Shore of Staten Island is home to one of the most rich and diverse populations in New York City. The North Shore Spotlight is a place for us to showcase the exemplary teachers, staff, students, and community members that contribute to our organization’s success.
